Dec. 22nd, 2016 06:28 pmO just saw my "Black Lives Matter is not a radical statement" hoodie for the first time and was like "of course it isn't" *quizzical look*.
So, hey, doing something right.
Someday I will stop being a little nervous when I wear it in public. I definitely have some work to do on that front. I'll wear stuff repping my own issues (queer stuff, feminist, etc.) no problem, but I worry about f-ing it up with this.

Date: 2016-12-23 05:01 pm (UTC)I guess my advice is what others have told me - if you're actually concerned about NOT coming off like that, then you probably are NOT coming off like that. Our intentions will come out no matter what we say and if you just want to stand by your friends who are black and support them (without looking down on them as "weak" and you as "savior") then that will come out in your actions and people will recognize you are an advocate and you care.
And if someone is rude to you about it that's their problem. Believe in yourself and your good intentions. That you truly believe that Black Lives Matters is not a radical statement and you want to help spread that message is great and believe in yourself no matter what anyone says that you're a good friend and advocate!
