I thought the people on the celiac forums were exaggerating about needing to get rid of all their kitchen stuff.

Oops.

So now we need a new toaster, cutting boards, a fair chunk of cooking utensils, cast iron pan, etc, and basically a special "no gluten zone" where anything porous or with small parts will live (on what counter space I have no idea yet). Which isn't EVERYTHING, but we use the hell out of our toaster oven so it should be a decent one, and since contamination is the issue, I can't turn to Goodwill like I usually do in such instances.

I have been using the "SimpleBlocker" chrome extension a lot so that I can ensure I go 8 hours without twitter/tumblr/etc since I am on hardcore deadline hell at the moment -- show tomorrow night, and I needed about twice as much stock as I had made as of two days ago. It makes me a little twitchy, since twitter is how I talk to my friends throughout the day, but there is only so much exposure to politics I can handle right now and stay functional.

I don't wanna work.

I wanna go to the art supply store.
Which counts a little bit as work, but not urgent work, as the materials I am getting fall under prototyping rather than straight production.

Jo-ann's paint section does not extend to things like fluid acrylics and self-leveling gel, so it would mean heading to the U District, plus wandering around time, hence at least an hour.

I have just enough wiggle room in my current set of deadlines to want to take a break, but it isn't actually advisable.

Adulting sucks.

Both my SLR bodies are currently non-functional, and I haven't been able to make it down to Ballard to get a repair quote, but previous experience tells me that it will be $200 minimum to get both repaired, and likely more. A random tweet directed me to the knowledge that the successor to the nicer of those bodies (so with HD video and eye-fi) is currently $300. Which is... hmmm.

(Also, this is probably a Get Off My Lawn moment, but I wish standard camera kits were still body+fastish 50mm lens, instead of body+slow 18-55 zoom lens. Use your feet to zoom, that's how to learn, damnit.)

I have far less need for an SLR these days, but would like to have the capability to return to nicer product photos than my point-and-shoot can handle, and you know, some times I still want to go make photos of things besides the children. (Not that I've even edited the photos I took last spring at Long Beach. Gaaaaah.)

I don't know if my thinking is being unduly influenced by the appearance of my tax refund, which I should probably just apply to debt. I didn't really want to spend any more money on equipment this year....

ETA: I have been convinced it is a good idea, especially because shooting videos is definintely a thing I need to start. It was only $15 extra for red, so wheeee!

Yes, I'm posting this everywhere, but that is because it is AWESOME:

and brings back so many memories, though I might have started with 2.0 instead of 1.0.
I still have a few of the pixellated, over-saturated things I made with it loitering in the depths of my hard drive.

I got out the (black) photo velvet for the first time in ... 6 years? (thank you, 2009 me, for deviating from your normal practice and storing the photo velvet somewhere that would still be logical 6 years later. The color checker card, though, still eludes me.)

Pushkin (the orange cat) was down from wherever he was upstairs to come try and sit on it within a minute.

(And there is a pet door to my room, so I can't actually keep him out. Which is usually a good thing.)

I just sent off the final (barring redos) print order to the lab for all Christmas orders, so at least until they start coming back, I have nothing URGENT URGENT to do. Which does not mean that there aren't plenty of red-flagged things on my to-do list, but no longer are there are any that are caffeine-iv-drip class time critical.

Though right now the thought of continuing to ride the Red Bull and use the energy to clean and organize many things is tempting. But I'd hate myself in the morning.

except I'm not done yet, so perhaps more accurately this:

Crash-learning is never fun, but InDesign really is the bomb, and I should have done this ages ago. It's so much FASTER, and having out-of-program image edits update almost automatically without having to put the new version in manually is awesome.  Making it work for matted albums and certain kinds of complex spreads isn't going to work, or at least not until I level up a whole lot, but even just in processing time it's gonna save me so much time.

Listening to conscious hip-hop while working on luxury books is kind of weird, but it's what my brain wants today.

I have got to figure out how to safely put a space heater in here, my fingers keep stiffening up.

Get behind on work committments due to schedule interruptions/being sick.
Start staying up late and caffeinating in order to try and catch up on committments

I hate November.

I think I need to suck it up and buy Helvetica. Though I've only really got font budget for one weight, and am not sure which one to get. Bleah.

Also, there is too much goddamn drama in my life right now (details are not externally relevant), and I do. not. have. time. Travails are forbidden in November.

I need a nap, and cuddles, and warm pie, and a clone.

I swear whenever I tell photoshop "Yes, I want to open 21 images" it mutters "bitch" to itself in binary.

Also, I need more RAM.

I guess the holiday rush thing is gonna probably happen again this year after all. Which is mostly awesome because $$, but having three bookings in the space of three days is a very "shit just got real" moment. And I get to learn how to navigate shipping to the UK wheee!

Maybe I shouldn't send in the form for the school craft fair, since that assumes a chunk of time making new stuff. Though I do have a fair bit left over from Norwescon, so I guess that will be okay either way... eep.

(why does spell-check think fiar is a real word?)

Time to go make the donuts.

I had my first in-person prospective client meeting in a loooong time this morning. Thankfully I only forgot one thing, and it didn't end up being necessary.

I wore a dress, and makeup, and everything. First thing in the morning, too. I get a cookie for that, right?

With many, many awesome goodnesses to bid on: Con or Bust!

And if you, or someone you know, was thinking you might like my services for help on any kind of project (not just weddings), my auction item for a 100 image project (normally $300) has a minimum bid of merely $50.
