I need a nice quote about love for a book I'm doing, so I made the seemingly logical move of looking on pinterest.

(ETA: it's a boudoir album, so I'm hoping for something more grown-up than schmoopy.)

So much patriarchal bullshit ("take care of your wife like a daughter" wtf), insanely dysfunctional bullshit, scary ass obsessive bullshit...

Also, but more rarely, truely horrible typography.

I was going to link but I decided I like you all too much.

I found *one* that I like, but I don't know that it works for my purpose, I don't think it's an accident that it is a quote from a famous novelist instead of, say, a self-help book or relationship book. (The 7th one on this page, and no that is not a pinterest link.)

Yikes. Thank you for sparing us. Except that one quote which goes from patriarchal to downright super-creepy-incest-like.

I've started to notice that many of the love songs I hear on the radio would apply (sans sex) to how I feel about my daughter - the whole giving my life for her and giving up everything of my own to take care of her kind of thing - but if a person wrote that song for ME as their girlfriend/wife/partner I would feel creeped out and suffocated. "Fix You" by Cold Play? Ugh! "Someone like you" by Adelle? Yeah, if I'm married and I see in your face it isn't over for you, I'm going to feel really guilty and uncomfortable and sorry for you - is that a good thing to you? I could go on but I will spare you as you so kindly spared me from pinterest.

Oh, yeah. (I pretty much can only handle one Coldplay song, which is the one about the king, but partly that's their musical style) With Adele at least there is the knowledge that she wrote it at, like, 19, but I far prefer her pissed off breakup songs, which are way less creepy.

I listen to a lost of K-pop now, partly beceause it gives me a poppy music fix where I can't actually understand the words (which are often just as bad, which is why i don't look up translations much.)

I actually really like Adelle even if I wouldn't want her to sing that song to me :) I love her voice and "Set Fire to the Rain" is a perfect break-up song. And yeah, it sounds better coming from a 19 year old. I like Cold Play's music but sometimes the lyrics bug me because they have a whiny/creepy vibe to them. "Green Eyes" is actually a really sweet song by them.

What is K-pop - kid's pop? Or something else? I block out the words in Pitbull songs because I like the music and I can't understand most of what Macklemore says so those are two bands that EJ and I can enjoy together. Although she does get the occasional talk about Pitbull not being respectful in his music about women's worth as intelligent, creative people. But then some women in pop (especially hip/hop) objectify men so she gets that talk too.

Kpop = Korean pop. My favorites are SHINee, Big Bang, f(x), Wonder Girls, Psy and Nu'est. Crayon Pop is probably the kids favorite, and is super ridiculous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eZHdYWhd-E is their song that went viral in Asia/Oceania, if not as worldwide as Psy's Gangam Style.
