Japanese bands also do a lot of ridiculous extras. And what's even more nuts is that if you buy a copy of a CD in a used CD store, it'll still have all of those extras. I was really lucky to be in the country when my favorite band released their newest album last year and not only did I get the limited edition with the two extra DVDs of videos and live cuts of the songs, but they had an "exhibition" in Tower Records Shibuya at the time with all the items used for the album's title track video. I dunno why nobody does that over here; I guess it's actually sort of a good thing in that it creates less random junk, but still.
