Book Meme day 1
May. 8th, 2014 11:18 am(memes! It's like 2004 all over again! (Wow, in May of 2004 I posted in this LJ almost every day. Dude.))
I have no idea where it originated, but I saw it on
garpu and
sirriamnis this morning.
Day 1: Best book you read within the last year:
Best is such a strange word to use with books. I'm going to assume instructional books don't count for this :)
I was going to say Hiromi Goto's Half World, but Goodreads says I read that 15 months ago. I don't really get to read enough long-form fiction these days. I think my best, most immersive reading experience in the past 12 months was Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus. It's a lushly described, magical world I didn't want to leave, but if you like books that are all about Action! I wouldn't recommend it. It's set in the 20th/21st century, but I would happily shelve it next to most of Patricia McKillip. When I wrote the review on goodreads, I said it should be animated by a French studio that uses an old-fashioned art style like faux linocut or ink and brush, and I'm sticking by it. It is stunningly visual.
