I'm clearly getting old

I resorted to a can and a half of Monster energy drink to make it though the Pancakes and Booze show (we tore down at 1 am) and was basically completely wrecked for two days following. My body appears to be almost entirely done with bubbly caffeinated drinks, so I need to come up with a new strategy before the next late night show, and frankly, a new strategy for handling the regular shows as well -- I won't be up past my bedtime when I vend at GeekGirlCon (table #804! Near the back!) but they are pretty much 12-14 hour days with no real breaks.

As long as I am talking shows, the rest of my schedule after GeekGirlCon (still waiting to hear back from one more show) for in-person shows is:
November 24-25 - GeekCraftExpo, Seattle [FREE but only if you register for tickets in advance]
December 1:- Cascade Winterfest, Shoreline (free)

December 15: Georgetown Holiday Market, Seattle (free)

Is the wood Glowforge work BTW? Any interesting things you learned getting that in your toolkit?

All the wood stuff is glowforge. It's been both awesome and really frustrating, because as a medium it's a really different thinking process, and also the controls, even on the Glowforge which is designed to be easier to use than most laser cutters, are strange. I'm still in a really beginner place with it, both in picking up vector-based skills (Illustrator/Inkforge) but in being able to translate my idea into engraving. And there is a whole lot of things like optimization you don't have to worry about in any of my other media, because even the most inefficient Photoshop file will still use the same amount on ink, but decisions you make on your glowforge file affect how long the laser needs to run and at what power, which affects how soon you need to replace the bulb-equivalent.

When S and R decided they wanted one, I was like "yeah whatever" and now I'm on track to use it more than anyone in the house.

It is definitely fun. If you decide you want one, I'm pretty sure they gave us a discount code. I suspect I will eventually want to upgrade to a laser that is powerful enough to cut metal, but they start at like $6k and I'm gonna put that off as long as possible.

(I'm lucky enough to have a shared one at work I can mess around with, so I've been playing with that occasionally, like cutting some mutant Penrose tiles. I've never used Inkscape before so that's definitely a learning curve, with new challenges like "a line on top of a line is different than a single line."

Metal would be fun. I'd also be thrilled by metal 3D printing, but even nice plastic... the printers in the shop are kind of disillusioning -- they're the kind that builds out of plastic string, basically a scanning hot-glue gun.)

I've seen a lot of people who 3d print with PLA or whatever, and then do a mold so they can cast metal, which is soo much cheaper than the 3d printers that can work with metal.

I've seen people doing "lost PLA" pouring glass, and that looked pretty hardcore. :)
