The kids' high school had a lockdown on Monday because (reportedly) several students brought ammunition to school. School went on as normal today, but we just got the message that the school is closed entirely tomorrow because of multiple tips concerning a potential threat building on Mondays, and I'm trying really hard to be calm but as soon as I remember this is happening I'm scared all over again.

I wasn't planning on having a drink before bed tonight, but now I'm pretty sure it's the only way I'll get to sleep.

Jesus Christ. :( Here's hoping it's just some kid wanting more Christmas break than what was scheduled. Someone called in a bomb threat at Harvard during finals because they weren't wanting to take a final a few years ago.

I wonder how our parent felt when students called in prank bomb threats and such when we were kids.

I don't think anyone did prank bomb threats to a school i went to; I do remember that I'd heard (mostly from movies and stories) about people calling in fake threats, but I had never actually heard of a bomb being set off in a school. I suspect that there would be a distinct pre/post Columbine difference if you surveyed our generation's parents.

The Episcopal middle school I went to got 127 bomb threats in two years. Same guy, they finally got him. We evacuated every time he called one in, but it didn't seem like the administration took them all that seriously. TBH, neither did we by the end. I imagine it would be a different situation now.
